Rubber Gaskets – Proto Moulding

Transforming ideas into tangible innovations through advanced additive manufacturing — 2,500+ projects delivered since 2018.

A customer required a small batch of soft rubber gaskets with a very low hardness of 25 Shore. Conventional 3D printing technologies were not suitable for producing such flexible components, and several vendors were unable to offer a practical manufacturing solution due to the technical limitations involved.

Our objective was to develop an economical alternative that could produce functional silicone gaskets without the cost of conventional production tooling.

Problem Statement

Requirement for small rubber gaskets with low shore hardness (25 Shore)

Conventional 3D printing methods unsuitable for such soft materials

Order rejected by multiple vendors due to technical limitations

Solution

Conducted R&D to develop alternative manufacturing approach

Introduced Proto Moulding (low-cost injection moulding using 3D printed moulds)

Created plastic 3D printed moulds

Injected 25 Shore hardness silicone into moulds

Each mould produced up to 30 gasket pieces efficiently and cost-effectively
